May the Perpetual Light Shine Upon Her
We regret to inform you of the passing of our dear Sister, Sr. Dumka Michael, of the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM). Today, we share the sad news of her death in Nigeria. She served as an advisor to the Christian Mothers Confraternities in Nigeria.
Sr. Dumka Michael, MMM, was born in 1974 in Zaakpon, near Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She completed her primary and secondary education locally before pursuing studies in commerce at university. After two years, she took time to discern her vocation and subsequently joined the MMM in 1996.
Following her initial formation in Nigeria, she continued her studies in Kenya, where she obtained qualifications in Commerce and Business Administration from the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA).
Her missionary journey in East Africa began in Malawi, where she served as Administrator at Chipini Health Centre. She later responded to calls for service in Uganda, working in Makondo, and then in Arusha, Tanzania. Throughout these assignments, she was widely respected and admired for her dedication and leadership as an Administrator.
In 2010, after making her Final Profession of Vows, she earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Management from the University of Derby in England before returning to Nigeria.
Back in Nigeria, she served as Hospital Administrator at St. Mary’s Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan, for eight years. She was later assigned to the MMM community in Abuja, where she became actively involved in social justice initiatives, particularly in the fight against human trafficking.
Sr. Dumka was known for her bright and cheerful spirit, always choosing to see the positive side of life.
She fell ill in 2025, and despite receiving treatment, her health gradually declined. She passed away on April 8 in a hospital in Abuja.
May her soul rest in peace.
