Local Confraternity Chapters

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers is a canonically established confraternity of the Catholic Church, with rights and privileges granted by the Holy See under the power our Blessed Lord endowed to St. Peter to govern His Church. It operates locally through individual chapters that have been ecclesiastically erected at parishes throughout the world, with the approval of the local bishop under the direction of the local pastor.

Find a Confraternity

There are over 3,400 local chapters of the Confraternity throughout North America and certain other English-speaking regions. These are all affiliated with the Archconfraternity established in Pittsburgh at St. Augustine’s Church (so-called because it has been granted the authority to affiliate other chapters of the Confraternity located in its territory).

The vast territory of the Pittsburgh Archconfraternity includes many chapters that are vibrant and represent thousands of Christian Mothers, their children and grandchildren. Other chapters no longer maintain active membership for one reason or another, but retain their canonical standing at their original parish.

Maintaining an up-to-date list of which chapters are active or inactive is a challenge. We rely on local members to help us update our records, which span almost 150 years of the Confraternity’s presence in North America. Please contact us if you find any inaccuracies, or if you have additional questions.

Can’t find the Confraternity in your area?

This might be your call to establish a chapter.

  • At the National Office, one of our primary functions is to help you bring the Confraternity to mothers in your parish. We can provide you with the information, materials and support to start (or restart) a chapter at your parish, including:

    • Information to share with your pastor when seeking approval.

    • Forms your pastor (and bishop) need to sign, and documents for getting started.

    • Resources and materials for promoting the Confraternity to the women in your parish.

    • Ritual of Solemn Reception and guidance on how to enroll women once your chapter is established.

    • Support in operating a Confraternity chapter.
